This post features Oakham and Uppingham

Oakham

Oakham
All Saints, Oakham – there was a funeral underway here – so I didn’t go in
All Saints Church and the castle in Oakham…
The main hall of the castle dates from 1208 – it survived as it was being used as a courtroom when Henry VIII came to the throne
Unusual collection of decorative horseshoes on display in the hall
The oldest horseshoe in the collection was given by Edward IV in 1470 – the image on the right indicates how it might have looked when it was new
Oakham
Oakham Museum
A Saunderson Model G Universal Tractor from 1916
A Pattisson tractor from 1938 – specifically made for golf course and sports grounds maintenance. Founded in 1898 and originally based in Greyhound Lane, Streatham, H Pattisson & Co specialised in the manufacture of ‘Patent Horse Boots and Golf Course Requisites…

Uppingham

St Peter and St Paul in Uppingham
St Peter and St Paul in Uppingham
St Peter in Uppingham
St Paul in Uppingham
St Peter and St Paul in Uppingham has a nice churchyard with some fine Yews
Archdeacon Robert Johnson (1540-1625) founded both Oakham and Uppingham schools in 1584…
This house used to be a pub
This is still a pub, clearly…
Looking up towards Uppingham School
Fancy entrance to Uppingham School – Friday’s curriculum appears to be for the students to wander aimlessly around the town – so taking pictures devoid of said students was time consuming
Gates of Distinction: Gates of the Privileged – if you’re not posh: you’re not coming in

Duddington

Not sure why I put it here – Duddington is in Northamptonshire…

St Mary’s, Duddington
St Mary’s Church, Duddington

Duddington
The River Welland flows through Duddington
Duddington is a small village
