Welcome to the Oyster World Tour. It started with a round the world trip in 2009. I didn’t have a camera with me then but I did set up a blog, which is now incorporated into this blog. Other posts are taken from my Facebook page, which began with a visit to Moldova in October 2012. I regret that I took so few photos on that trip, especially as it included Odessa and Crimea. Other trips have been added since then. The blog is not monetised, there are no adverts or pop-ups. It is simply a list of some of the places I have visited and is just for fun. Inevitably the posts will date as things photographed change and comments made are no longer relevant. I use different data sources for information and, where relevant, websites are shown should anyone want more details. The comments made throughout are mine as are any mistakes. Hopefully, the blog will give you an idea of what there is to see and do in the places listed. There are lots of professional travel blogs, of course (I find The Crazy Tourist useful) – this just happens to not be one of them…

There are over 100 posts that cover countries, counties and different topics. To access the blog: click on “Menu” , then click on “Blog” and then load more posts until you find one that interests you. I do not know who sees this blog unless a comment, or “like”, is made. This is a “hobby blog” and is not monetised, so you won’t get plagued by pop-ups & adverts. Should you be interested in accessing any of the websites featured for further information, then you will be subject to their terms & conditions. The websites I have used for information and data are all legitimate…

This post features Paris, Chartres, Laon, Le Mans and Orléans from a trip in July 2025. For this trip, I flew from Leeds-Bradford to Paris Charles de Gaulle with Jet2. At Paris CdG I took the RER train from the airport station. We landed at Terminal 3 and it’s a bit of a trek to…

118. Scotland 2

This post is split into different sections. The first section covers a trip to Inveraray and Campbeltown, via Glasgow. The second section covers a trip to Inverness, Invergordon and Cromarty. The third section will cover the gem towns around Edinburgh: Culross, Haddington, Kelso and Edinburgh & Leith plus Dunfermline, Scotland’s “newest” city (it was awarded…

117. The Peasants Are Revolting: Heroes and Villains

A brief, and by no means complete, history of rebels and rebellions in England and Wales. It makes for interesting, sometimes depressing, reading as you realise how little some things have changed and see that, with the rise of AI (artificial intelligence), the age of the Luddites (in its correct or original meaning) has made…
